In the Navy

I was sitting in our office/dining room this weekend and came to the conclusion that I need to paint it navy. There is really beautiful wainscoting around the bottom, painted ivory, and it would look so striking with a navy top hat, so to speak. The room is in the front of our house, just as you come in the front door to the right, and gets a ton of sunlight, so I don't think it would be too dark and cave-y. And even if it were, so what? But it won't, so there.

These are some of the rooms I was pinning like a madwoman this weekend, after inspiration struck. Let's just hope Tom is on board with such a dramatic paint job.

See? Wouldn't that look purty with the wainscoting?

An oriental rug in reds or oranges is a must. Does it look like that bed is floating in space above that rug, or is it just me?

I love lamp.

Those mid-century mod chairs are KILLING ME.

I could do blue and yellow...

Blue and coral...

Blue and Granny Smith green...

Ooooohhhh.....blue and GOLD....

SHUT UP, YOU BLUE LACQUERED BITCHEZ. With blue velvet, no less????!!! I just shat myself.

So whaddaya think of navy? Should I go for it? Happy Monday, yo!

Vin-spiration

Strangely enough, this ensemble was inspired by one Angela Basset wore in last week's American Horror Story: Coven. Which, by the way, has gone BEYOND the bounds of ridiculousness this season, but that's another post altogether.

In any case, Miz. Angela wore a striped maxi dress with a cropped leather jacket and possibly a red scarf around her neck, but hell if I can find a photo of it.

So I scored this vintage maxi skirt last summer for $4, and had yet to wear it until yesterday, because it is so long I literally have it pulled up over my boobs, then covered with a spanx to hold in the bunchy fabric, with the t-neck over that.

I don't know if it was actually made for a 7-foot tall Amazonian, or if it is really a dress. Either way, I loved this look.

There is so much fabric, in fact, that I am kind of excited to think about different ways I might be able to wear this.

That's the great thing about vintage/thrifting - it forces  you to think outside the box if you find something you love that might not quite work initially.

You just have to be a little creative about it sometimes. PUT YOUR THINKING CAPS ON, as my third grade teacher Mrs. Pawsey used to say.

With vintage - one thing is certain - no one else will be wearing what you are. That's the beauty of it.

Tell me - are you a vintage shopper/thrifter? What was your best score? As Walter White would say - have an A-1 Day!!

Red Carpet Recap: SAGs

Wow - this show managed to be boring, cheesy and pretentious all wrapped up in one pooptacular package. The fashion, however, was at least more exciting than the Golden Globes. Let's taste the rainbow, shall we?

The Good:

Julie Bowen's dress was weird, yet totally cool at the same time. I thought it looked better on screen than in photos, but I still really loved it. I am also pretty sure we would be BFFs if we were ever to meet in real life.

J Law has not been wowing me with her red carpet wear lately, but she was ON POINT with this number. From the funky hair to the makeup to that gorgeous sequin column, this was pretty much perfection.

Speaking of perfection, is there anything Lupita Nyong'o CAN'T wear? She is seriously racing to the top of everyone's style chart, for good reason. This turqwaaaaz color is amazing on her, and I loved her makeup with it. I didn't love it as much as that white Calvin Klein that she wore to the Critics' Choice awards, but she is still a goddess in it. Let's have a moment of silence for the Calvin Klein, why don't we?

See? I tode you.

I have no idea who Lena Headey is, but I DIG her dress.

I have loved Rita Moreno ever since The Electric Company, and her acceptance speech and subsequent impromptu songs actually made me tear up. I personally think her jacket (which is fan-fucking-tastic) is actually too much with the dress, but they - and she - are both so incredible I will forgive her for it.

Ahhhh, Queen Helen - you KILLED.

Cate Blanchett's dress REALLY looked better on camera - it was breathtaking - but looks slightly schlumpy in photos. Still, she is gorgeous and amazing.

Sandy Bullock has done such a 180 on the red carpet lately. This emerald was SICK and WRONG on her, in the best way possible.

After Anna Gunn's completely flesh-toned dress at the last awards, this is 110% better.

Most excellent use of Accessories goes to....Anna Gunn!!

The Middle of the Road

I am in deep love with Aaron Paul, still in the midst of binge-watching Breaking Bad - Netflix - come ON with the last eight episodes!!! You're really going to make me wait until February 24?!!! Maybe it's the lighting in this photo, but the bottom half of Aaron Paul looks like Aaron Paul's mom. Don't those slacks look weirdly like ladies slacks? And the shoes? I love the design, but almost feel like a chunkier sole would make them look more masculine. They're just slightly off. Still, he is adorable - no denying that.

Who knew Jesus had a tuxedo?!!!

Oh Emma Thompson - the more I see you oot and aboot in these silly awards' ceremonies, the more I love you. I just can't figure out what is going on with the bottom of your dress. I feel almost like if it were wide-legged pants, I could get on board with it.

The Wow. Just Wow.

When did I decide I could no longer stand Julie Roberts? I don't know, but it's true. She's just so damn SMUG all the time (a bit of trivia for you - the male version of Julia Roberts in my head is Kevin Spacey - SMUG). Blech. And this look, which was schlumpy to begin with, is actually a PANTSUIT. I CANNOT.

Amanda Peet - are you f@#king with us in this dress?

While Kerri Washington's head looked GORGEOUS, the rest of her...

No. Nope. Nada. Thanks for playing, please try again.

So much is wrong with Mayim Bialik's dress that I don't know where to begin. Is it the black widow's lace jacket that she apparently stole from the Old Timey Photo Booth at the local amusement park? The awkward fit of the dress underneath? The high-low hem? Her makeup does look nice - I'll give her that, but I cannot sign off on ANYTHING else.

I think the girl throwing side-eye in the background says everything we need to say about this look.

So did you watch the SAG's? Who were your faves and least faves? Hit it, kids!

Merci,
Shan

There's A Party On My Pants

There's no two ways about it - a party on my pants sounds just as disgusting as a party IN my pants.

Still, the Pants Gods were with me, because I FINALLY got a pair of sequin pantalones, after looking for a pair for a year.

And can I just say - these pants are COMFY WOMFY. Like reeeeaaaallly fancy sweat pants.

What is also hard to tell is that they are actually a goldish bronzy color, no lie. Even more gold that bronze. Apparently, it is muy difficult to take a photo that accurately captures the color. Just trust.

I really liked them with the jacket and button down, but can't wait to wear them with something casual, like a sweatshirt or graphic tee and some white Keds.

Let's not go crazy now, though, I'll wait until it warms up to a balmy 40 degrees to do something like that.

Hand Me My Leather. And Then Stand Back.

A little conversation I had with Amy Bo Bamy and Natty Lite last week. You're welcome...

To: Amy and Natasha
From: Shannan

I am wearing a pair of faux leather leggings today that I got from Zara after Christmas, and they are so tight I fear that if I fart in them I'm going to split them out or seriously injure myself.

That is all. Carry on.

Everybody's Farting With Their Tight Pants On...

To: Amy and Shannan
From: Natasha

Please to set up a webcam (aka faux leather fart cam).

I need to see this happen.

To: Natasha and Amy
From: Shannan

I'll do what I can. Also, you will both be happy to know that Gavin runs from wherever he is in the house to put his butt on me whenever he has to fart. I could blow him into the next room with these pants on today. Trust. He better watch out.

To: Shannan and Amy

I'm so proud. Of both of you.
YOU will be happy to know that I CONTAINED my fart during sexy time yesterday. That's called personal growth.
