Vin-spiration

Strangely enough, this ensemble was inspired by one Angela Basset wore in last week's American Horror Story: Coven. Which, by the way, has gone BEYOND the bounds of ridiculousness this season, but that's another post altogether.

In any case, Miz. Angela wore a striped maxi dress with a cropped leather jacket and possibly a red scarf around her neck, but hell if I can find a photo of it.

So I scored this vintage maxi skirt last summer for $4, and had yet to wear it until yesterday, because it is so long I literally have it pulled up over my boobs, then covered with a spanx to hold in the bunchy fabric, with the t-neck over that.

I don't know if it was actually made for a 7-foot tall Amazonian, or if it is really a dress. Either way, I loved this look.

There is so much fabric, in fact, that I am kind of excited to think about different ways I might be able to wear this.

That's the great thing about vintage/thrifting - it forces  you to think outside the box if you find something you love that might not quite work initially.

You just have to be a little creative about it sometimes. PUT YOUR THINKING CAPS ON, as my third grade teacher Mrs. Pawsey used to say.

With vintage - one thing is certain - no one else will be wearing what you are. That's the beauty of it.

Tell me - are you a vintage shopper/thrifter? What was your best score? As Walter White would say - have an A-1 Day!!

Linked here.

Turtleneck: Inc., Macy's
Skirt: Vintage, thrifted
Boots: Zara
Necklace: Is two, hooked together - the coral side was a gift from my sis - I think she brought it from Italy or Sardinia?; the chair was an el cheapo from F21
Jacket: Consignment

Merci,
Shan

I am a big time vintage shopper. Do you ever shop estate sales?

This skirt is amazing. What about having it altered in length?

The whole outfit is fantastic.

That show was BS from the start this year. I loved it last year but really the only reason I watch is Jessica Lange. She is excellent no matter what.

Suzanne - I TOTALLY thought of you when I put this ensemble together. And yes, not often, but I LOVE Estate Sales (though the ones I frequent aren't as scurry as the one you experienced)!! I'm SO disappointed in AHS - I loved the whole coven/voodoo thing they had - there's a lot of potential in it, but it's like Ryan Murphy has just devolved into torture porn in a lot of it, and I CANNOT with that.

Amy - Why thank you, pretty lady!

That skirt is ah-maze-ing!! Can you get it altered or will that mess up the pattern? I'm late to the party on AHS...we just got a roku so the hubby and I are just finishing up Season 1, which I love. I've heard season 2 was pretty out there, but that's not necessarily a bad thing!
