Buried Treasure

I never realized what kinds of things - what kinds of SHENANIGANS - were happening at my home while I was gone, until today.

I KNEW there was nonsense, but not quite to the EXTENT until today. I mean, I should've had a clue, right? Anyone whose child would a) stick a foam rubber alphabet letter up his nose, and b) whose other child would stick a piece of styrofoam peanut up his nose just because his brother had done the same a few weeks earlier? Knows they're dealing with nonsense. I mean. Just the other night I came out onto our back deck where my boys were sitting on the dining table butt naked (of course, because where ELSE does one sit butt naked except for on the back deck dining table, amiright)??? And said second child (who stuck said styrofoam peanut up nose) had pulled the ring that the umbrella sits in off just enough that he could stick his weiner through it. Seriously, folks. This is what I'm dealing with on a daily basis.

So it should have really come as no surprise when I got home tonight, and was trying to get everyone ready to go to the store, when I couldn't find anyone's shoes, that The Hubs casually mentioned, "Oh, their shoes? They buried them in the back yard." Uhhhh, whoseewhatsit???? "They buried them," he repeated, "In the backyard. Don't worry. I'll go dig them up in a minute."

The boys buried their shoes? In the dirt? In the yard? And what about Scarlett? I asked. "Oh, she did too." Ah haaaa, I see. Ummmm, are we talking about their brand new shoes that I just got them last weekend? And Scarlett's brand new sandals? "Yep. I'll go dig them up in a minute," as said Hubs continues to casually work on his laptop. All the while, I am watching ominous storm clouds gathering overhead. looks like it's going to start raining any minute, hon. "I'LL GO DIG THEM UP IN A MINUTE." Sigh. Okay.

My kids. That's who. That's how they do.

Band of Brothers

I'm always on the lookout for the perfect band name. You know, for when I become a rock star and need, like, a name? For a band?

Who am I kidding? Though I DID sing in a band at one point in my life, my TRUE band personality is band geek. TRUMPET PLAYA REPRESENT!! I ain't even lying.

Nevertheless, I DO have a small collection of band names JUST IN CASE. Let's see...there are The Pink Trenchcoats - a girl band a la the Go-Go's. DUH. Neon Bikini - possibly a punk ska band, and of course, the original name that started my collection of band names, Pantyhose Jesus.

I think we all know Pantyhose Jesus is indie rock. Is there really a question of anything else it COULD be?

Pantyhose Jesus was inspired by a girl I used to work with whose grandmother used to make, well, little Jesus dolls out of pantyhose. Of course, I smacked it up, flipped it, rubbed it down, and the name has been my number one band name ever since. Puh-LEEEZE tell me I'm not the only one who has such a collection. Come ON. Don't leave me hanging on this one, peeps. Perhaps we can collaborate on our break-out single.

Randomly Speaking

Since my title is randomly speaking, I'm going to stream of consciousness this bad boy.

I thought I would rock the Victoria Beckham standard pose. Frankly, I don't know how she doesn't throw out a hip posing like that.

It has been many a moon since I've worn this Family Thrift $2 dress, so I thought I'd whip it out (the DRESS - sheesh - get yo dirty minds out the gutter) and wear it wif my neon yellow belt.

Is it wrong that from time to time I have been known to bust out some Salt 'n Pepa to The Trips? Specifically, Beauty & The Beat:

Salt and Pepa MC's represent beauty
We want y'all to see why we're the only
Nominee nominated representing our race
This jam is dedicated to all the pretty faces
And we're gonna rock like you like
Spinderella on the mix, Salt and Pepa on the mike
And we can satisfy your desire
We can make your body perspire
Make the men all want to get with it
Then take 'em down to the ultimate
Sounds and I say: Spinderella's not a fella
But a girl DJ!

What can I say? I STILL have a soft spot for those days of Salt n Pepa yore (i.e. 1986, though I wasn't officially DOWN with it until 1987 - my freshman year in college).

What can I say? My kids like to kick it old school now and then.

Awwww, come on - you KNOW imma throw a lil S-n-P in now, don'tcha? Sadly, I couldn't find a video for Beauty and the Beat, but Push It was all over the interwebs. Enjoy.

Scenes From The Weekend

Ya'll, I am down AGAIN with this nasty cold. I thought I was over it, and then BLAMO, it hit me again tonight. I am hopped up on Zyrtec and Afrin, with a can of spray paint and a beer from dinner thrown in for good measure, so I hope you don't mind if I just upload some snaps from the weekend and call it a night. Hope your weekend was dope. And I don't mean the Zyrtec and Afrin kind.

Gavie-Doodle at the Zoodle

Awwww, my Scarley Girl is so purty. AND wearing neon. Two snaps, a twist, and a kiss. Can't touch this!

Amy, I am FINALLY getting around to painting this bad boy. Here it is pre-primer and paint. I painted it gold tonight, and am debating putting some kind of glaze on it to antique it just a bit. I'll put my after snaps in later, yo.

Hit up a new thrift store with my homegirl Natty Lite, and all I found was a pair of these leaf trays, which started out life as silver. SOMEONE got a new can of gold spray paint!!!

Okay, okay - I lied. I also got a pair of fantastic mid-century glazed pottery looking mugs at the thrift. Wish they would've had two more. You can see it sitting in front of a mid-century print my aunt scored for me this summer at a garage sale.

Simon "Monterrey" Jack - aka CHEEEEEEZE!!!!

Detail of the credenza that we moved upstairs this weekend into the family room. Please ignore the stupid TV components that will be moved into the credenza cubbys once The Hubs gets a long enough cord to move them. Scored the two prints (Vegas on the left, San Fran on the right) at a garage sale last summer and we FINALLY hung them Saturday night. The tall white vase is from Homegoods, I think. Long time ago.

Okay, I'm about to pass out from my cocktail-o-meds and household hazardous materials. I'm audi.

This and That

My sister and her family have lived in Germany for the past 3 years due to my brother-in-law's job. This May, they will FINALLY move back to the States (yay - it's about damn time)!!!

Unfortch, they'll be in Maryland, but I won't complain too much, since they'll at least be back on the same continent.

The other day, my niece Jilly, who is about to turn 5, said to my sis, "So, tell me about this 'America,'" (quotes my own). It's the word "THIS" that makes the story for me. Not just, "Tell me about America, mom" from a kid who hasn't spent too much of her life here. Nope, not for Jilly Bean. Tell me about THIS America, like she was about to say, "Let's grab some coffee and chat, and you can tell me about this "AMERICA."

For the love of Erik Estrada, I MISS my sis and her family. Cannot WAIT to see them again this summer. Woo hooooooo!!!!

Which brings me to something else I can't wait for - THE HUNGER GAMES MOVIE, bay-beeee. Awwww yeah. Already have tickets to see it Friday with a group of friends and family (matinee, cuz I am OLD). But still. Tonight, The Hubs said, "What's the name of that movie we're seeing again? Hungry Games?" Ummmm, nooooo, but you're close. Anyone else STOKED to see it? Puh-leeze tell me I'm not the ONLY old person who is excited about it.

Bubbles, Tiny Bubbles...

I know this photo was on yesterday's post, but I have to say that I hopped on my blog randomly throughout the day Monday just to look at it, and every time I did I wanted to jump in my car, drive home, and just squeeze the little man.

Poor little dude with his wonky right eye, courtesy of a Severe Bubble Accident on Saturday, in which he was flinging bubble juice from the bubble wand my mom had just given him, and he flung a huge glob of it into his eye.

IMMEDIATELY he started screaming bloody murder, and I ran in to grab a wet towel to wipe his face while mom carried him into the house. He would NOT let us near his eye for quite a while and finally let us rinse it out under the faucet, my poor baby. His eye was bloodshot, and even the skin around it was red, for the rest of the night, and even the next day. Sniff, sniff, sniffle sniff...

Luckily, he did not suffer from Post Traumatic Bubble Disorder, and was happily playing in bubbles the next day.

My brave bubble soldier.
