SAG Red Carpet Roundup

I know, I know - you're all on pins and needles WAITING for our red carpet recap of the SAG Awards. Which I did not watch at all. But I DID get on Just Jared so I could spout off my armchair critique. You're welcome. Perhaps Amy will join in. Maybe not. It'll be a surprise to everyone. So here goes, wivout further adoooo, the good, the bad, and the let's just call a spade a spade.

My Favey Crocketts?

I don't know if Mila Kunis is at the top of my list because she's my number one girl crush right now, or if I really do love her look the most. Does she work wiv a stylist? I know not, but from her glorious hair to that amazing red dress, I could eat her up.

January Jones gets about half right on the red carpet, and half verrrry wrong, but luckily this is in the former category. It is perfection. I love love love the gold and black combo, and she is sleek as a seal in this. Yummy.
Hailee Steinfeld has thus far knocked my socks off on the red carpet. She looks spot frigging on in this. Love the colors, love her hair, it is age appropriate, and awesome sauce. The end.

And the award for Thank God, she FINALLY got it right goes to Tina Fey. Poyfect. The end.
This is a Sharon Stone a la Casino, Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface, 70s disco fabulous hybrid, and I just died. Thanks a lot, Lea Michelle.
Sarah Hyland could be Mila Kunis' younger sis, and the color, the simple chic column, and her hair just made me pee myself.
Did NOT love Natalie Portman's pink and red ode to Valentine at the Golden Globes, so I'm thankful she made up for it in this. Girlfriend is gorgeous.
Also loving Mindy Kahling in this white Grecian draped number, and hells YES I love that Wonder Woman belt.
Julie Bowen, THANK YOU for wearing this exce-frigging-lent sexaaaay tuxedo on the red carpet. I just wish you would've hemmed those pants a teensy bit. And maybe worn some bigger cuffs on yo arms.
Jayma Mays, loves that apricot color with her coloring, and the relatively simple cut and drape are fantastic. Or fans-tastic, if you're Aaahnold Schwarzenegger. And no, I am NOT looking up the correct spelling of his name. YOU know who I'm talkin bout, Willis.
Palate cleanser. The more I see Jessie Eisenberg, the more my slightly inappropriate crush grows. Who knew?

And now to the not so great.

Jenna Fischer - it's not turrible, it's just meh. And she is so adorable, plus she's originally from St. Louis, which makes me love her as a fellow midwesterner. I just wish there was more there there, know what I mean?

Amy Pohler - let's get one thing straight - I love you. You rock. You are effing HILARIOUS. I am hoping you can explain this dress to me, which, while nice enough for a day job at an accounting firm, is not quite right for a RED CARPET EVENT. Come ON. Step it up. You've been warned.

Let's move on to the downright dismal, shall we?

Christina Hendricks, I am aware that you are a curvy woman who looks more like the average American woman than 99.9 percent of the other celebrities presented, but what is the meaning of this Elvira Goes to Vegas getup? The hair is not doing it for me, and the makeup? LORD HAVE MERCY, the makeup? I shudder.

Nicole Kidman - this is a joke, right? WHAT ARE YOU WEARING AROUND YOUR NECK? I get that you suddenly had a baby that no one knew about so you are probably knackered beyond belief, what with your nannies needing to take care of TWO chillruns now, but surely, based on past photographic evidence of your prowess on the red carpet, there is a better excuse for this "moment" (thank you, Rachel Zoe, for the terminology). Or lack thereof.

And the Winner Is......

Number 23 - my homegirl 406 Olivia! If you haven't been to her blog yet, DO IT. This is Olivia:

and these are her abs:

She is lucky she is so frigging cool, hilarious, stylish, hilarious, cool, and funny. And hilarious. Otherwise, I'd punch her in those abs out of sheer insane envy. And run away... Seriously - congrats, girl. Hope you don't mind me swiping some pics from your bloggity ogg...

If I knew how to copy and paste the stupid Random Generator thingamajig here I would, but alas, I do not. I'm getting mired down in the details now. The important thing is - Olivia - I will be sending you an e-mail with deets to redeem your gift card. And now - a round of ale for everyone, and fresh horses for the men!

WWD: Alamande Left

No, I'm not back to in-the-mirror shots, but I was oooot and abooot this weekend and stopped to snap a few pics before running out the door because I lurved my outfit. True story. I ain't gonna lie. Sometimes an ensemble comes togeva and just works.
Speaking of working, I was finishing up my Cleopatra, A Life audiobook, which has mentioned Caligula a few times, which made me think of a couple I used to babysit for in high school, who, every Friday night without fail, went out. Square dancing.

Like, in the big square dancing dress with several crinolines underneath? Somewhat like this, if you're unfamiliar...

And I thought they were SO. GLAMOROUS. Now, looking back, I realize with her frosted mullet, blue eyeshadow and heavy black eyelines, they were a wee bit more Dogpatch than high glamour. I DO recall putting the kids to bed each week, heading down to their den, turning on some Cinemax and watching a lot of Lady Chatterly's Luvah or Caligula. Oh what - like YOU didn't take advantage of the Skin-emax late at night too.

TSAR: Best and Worst

I had a brainstorm for a new feature here at MBB - it's called That Sh!t Ain't Right (TSAR): Best vs. Worst. Come with meeeee and we'll beeeee in a worlllld of pure imaginaaaation - I think you'll catch my drift soon enough....
That Sh!t Ain't Right - BEST:

Matthew Williamson Pre-Fall 2011...Peacock, Fur AND Sequins?!!! Phat, Dope, SICK AND WRONG. That sh!t ain't right.

Alice + Olivia Pre Fall 2011...Giant Flares AND Giant Cuffs? That sh!t ain't right...
That Sh!t Ain't Right - Worst:

I am 41. If Camille Grammer is 42, then I am Queen Elizabeth. That sh!t ain't right.

And speaking of the "real" housewives, I am allll for plastic surgery if it makes you feel better, but when your lips start resembling deflated balloons, it may be time to rethink. And, and, annnnnd, I have liked Taylor Armstrong through this entire season of Housewives, until the last few episodes, when her backstabbery and bitchiness truly came through. That sh!t ain't right.

What - you haven't entered the giveaway yet? What da HAIL are you waiting on?!!!

Etsy Stores to Love

It has been waaaay too long since I've shown etsy some love, and I came across a shop this weekend that tickled my fancy something fierce. yystudios is a mix of Mad Men-inspired 50s circle skirts, Japanese batwing blouses and ponchos, with a dash of 70s boho glam thrown in for good measure. I know - sounds crazy, but it works, and it's FAB-U-LOUS. Check out some of my favorite items for sale:

DAYUM, Rainbow Bright never looked this good. Surrsly - that is a helluva skirt. Way to represent, lil circle number.

If that skirt wasn't enough rainbow for you, how bout this batwing ruffled confection? I need it to report to my closet STAT.

Grey linen red floral shirt? You are kimonoriffic.

Grey cashmere hooded cape? I want to make sweet, sweet love to you.

Hi, Adorable Floral Maxi. This is 1975 calling. What's a nice dress like you doing in a decade like this? Ohhhh, sexy Victorian white chiffon ruffled blouse (who thought those words in that order would ever make sense?) - I love you. And if you're wondering - yes - the ruffles go all the way around. Perfection.
Yoo hooooo! Black chiffon ruffled skirt? Is that yoooooou? Would you like to go with me to Muffy's for tea? We can always hit up Buzzard Beach for tequila shooters afterwards. Ta ta for now, dahlink!

Get thee hence to etsy now to check out more stuff, and if you're so inclined? I'm a size 4. Thanks - you're a DOLL.

WWD: Feeling Euphemistic...

I don't know about ya'll (ya'll? where are all these ya'lls coming from lately, Britney???) - but my right brain is directly affected by Aunt Flo. For real - I feel a complete lack of inspiration, humor, and creativity this week, and guess who's visiting? The old beyotch herself.

It's actually pretty frigging amazing that I was able to put together this outfit today, because I am ridin the cotton pony, so to speak. In fact, I had to google "euphemisms for menstruation" to come up with that one. I don't know if you know this, but there are some GOOD ones out there. Let's share, shall we?

Before we start, let me just say - I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS POST HAS RESORTED TO THIS. Muy apologios in advanceio. You didn't know I spoke Spanish, did you? Let's continue.

Some of my favorites:
1. Miss Scarlett's come home to Tara
2. I'm trolling for vampires.
3. I've had a dishonorable discharge from the uterine Navy.
4. I'm saddling old Rusty.
5. Feelin' menstru-riffic! (I could've written that one myself...)
6. Clean up in aisle one!!
7. Massacre at the Y
8. T-minus 9 months and holding...
9. Game day for the crimson tide
10. Taking Carrie to the prom
11. Playing banjo in Sgt. Zygote's ragtime band
12. Ordering l'omlette rouge
13. Arts and Crafts week at Panty Camp
14. Rebooting the Ovarian Operating System
15. Walking along the beach in soft focus
So did I miss any? Hells yes I did. There are a buttload of em out there. Share your favorites here. This is a safe place. Oh, and if you were disgusted by the post and did not find it in the least bit funny? You're probably a man.
