WWD: Our House

I got my DIY on this weekend and feel like I'm on such a roll I need to just go with it until it runs out. Started painting Scarlett's dresser (a small armoire that I've had forever). I'm painting it high gloss red on the exterior, aqua on the interior, and changing out the crappy hardware for something more Asian-inspired.

I'm SO excited to be working with Miz Amy from Living Laduree, Mod Fox Style and Feather & Flea (geez - pace yourself, woman - you're making the rest of us look like slackers)!
Seriously though, Amy was gracious enough, when I sent her a frantic e-mail saying "HELP ME brainstorm ideas for Scarlett's room!!" to agree to do just that, and even better, to put together a mood board for me. I can't wait to see what she does, and will deffo share it here.
If you haven't been to any of her blogs, DO IT. Her style is what I would call funky glam. I am FINALLY trying to spruce up The Trips' rooms. I have held off for this long because they are so damn destructive (at least the boys are), so since we are getting ready to transition them to big kid beds, we've been talking it up and telling them we're going to fix their rooms up too. It's really the state of our whole house. I feel like I haven't been able to decorate for the same reason, and it has driven me N-U-T-S. I still have books in boxes in the basement that I have never unpacked. Blargh!
Anyhoozle - I pretty much know what I want to do in the boys room, but have been stumped on Scarlett's, which is where Superwoman (aka Amy) came in. I have some pieces that we're reusing, and just bought a cool area rug for her from Urban Outfitters, but have been waffling on wall color. Scarlett would have her room Pepto Bismol pink if I painted it, but I just can't.
So not only is the dresser-painting going on, which might take forever, because I don't know if you have painted anything red before, but it takes approximately 1,879 coats to cover it fully, and if you're an idiot like me and didn't bother to prime first? It takes about 2,752 coats. Just 2,749 more to go!!!
ANYWAY, not only is the painting happening, but I am finally - FINALLY - recovering an antique fainting couch that I have had FOREVER, for the express purpose to reupholster it. Seriously. It has been sitting in my bedroom with the fabric I purchased to recover it since we moved in. Three years ago. So The Hubs and I pulled it out last night and went to work recovering it whilst watching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (by the way - did anyone else have NO IDEA it was starting up again last night and just happen upon it? Thanks a lot for the heads-up, Andy Cohen...) Another aside - I have never recovered anything besides a seat cushion now and then, so fingers crossed. We'll finish it tonight hopefully, and DAMMIT if I just now realized I didn't take any before photos, but I'll show you some afters.

If the couch goes well, I have another ancient chair in the basement that I plan to recover in a cool ikat fabric I saw at Old Time Pottery last weekend (or Old Time Pottery Barn, as my mom insists on calling it). And if that works out? I am pretty sure HGTV will give me my own show.
