Reading Is Fundamental: 40 Love

Several years ago, while driving to work and finding it difficult to control my road rage, I discovered the Wonder That Is the Audiobook. Thanks to my local library, I have managed to listen to waaaay more books that I would ever find time to read, AND avoid angry altercations with other drivers. You've prolly already noticed that I always list the current book I'm listening to on the bar at left. Imagine my delight, then, when Macmillan Audio contacted me recently to see if I wanted to preview the audiobook for Madeline Wickham's book 40 Love. You may know author Madeline Wickham by her other name, Sophie Kinsella (author of Confessions of a Shopaholic). I was all, "Uh, HELLS YES."

I have read or listened to almost all of her books, so I was ecstatic to give 40 Love a listen. True to Kinsella/Wickham form, I loved the book, written about a group of friends who spend a weekend playing tennis in England, and their various quirks and feuds about sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Okay, maybe there aren't feuds about drugs and rock and roll, but there ARE feuds about sex and money.

Narrator Katherine Kellgren does an excellent job capturing the differences between the characters, both newly wealthy and wannabe wealthy. Call me picky, but the narrator makes ALL the difference to me when I'm listening to a book. If I don't like the narrator, I will not listen to the book. Kellgren helped make Wickham's story even funnier than it already was.

If you like the Shopaholic series, and great Brit Chick Lit, deffo check out 40 Love. In fact, I'll even do a giveaway and send you my copy to listen to. (In the spirit of full disclosure, I must confess that the cover box has been slightly chewed by my chillruns, but other than that, it's perfect.)

If you're interested, leave a comment with your name and e-mail address by this Friday, September 23, and I'll pick someone at random to bequeath my copy to. Good luck!

EDITED: I should have mentioned earlier, you must be a follower of ye olde blogge to enter.

Merci,
Shannan

By the way how do you like Lamb (you are listening to it now)? It's on my list and wonder if it's worthwhile!

I'm in book mode...but have never tried audio books. I feel as though I've been robbed. Always loved having a story read to me. As long as it's not a horror, I'm in!
