WWD: Way Back Wednesday

Thought I'd kick off my return to ensemble posts today with a new feature called Way Back Wednesday. In the future, you may see some photos from back in the day (if I can figure out how to use my scanner), and I'm just sayin, I have a photo from sophomore year when I am ROCKING the Sheena Easton/John Taylor  Duran Duran mullet. Dude - it is EXCELLENT.

You may get to see some of my favorite dope videos. I am SO including Janet Jackson's Nasty, cuz I used to watch it overandoverandover to learn the dance moves. I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I can cut a rug when I want to. In fact, one time when I was out dancing at the club, I had some people approach me to join their group that was working to audition for Star Search. I'm just sayin. Of course, I only met with them for one practice before I realized what complete DORKS they were, especially the guy. I think he had a moustache. 'Nuff said.
You may, in this case, see some vintage/thrifted duds (aka this dress, which you have already seen before). Deal with it, okay?
Interesting tidbit, on this, my first day back to work since surgery day...I realized my closet is made up of mostly loose, shapeless, slouchy clothes. I think part of the reason is just that so much of that is in style and I really like it because it's comfy, but part of it (probably the bigger part) is because I have been so self-conscious about my belly, so I have been dressing to hide it.
Ames and I have had the conversation before, because she has said to me pre-surgery, but you're not that big, to which I replied - it's a good deal of smoke and mirrors. I am in the middle of composing a post for tomorrow or Friday with some pre- and post-op shots of my belly. They're not pretty. In fact, in my pre-op shots, when I completely relaxed my stomach "muscles," I still look pregnant. I was pretty surprised myself because I had gotten so used to automatically holding them in.
I guess I'm giving a warning about the post because if you're at all squeamish about that kind of stuff you may not want to see the pics, but I have had a few people ask me if I was posting them, and Lord knows I've talked enough about the surgery, so I feel it's only natural to share them here.
But back to Way Back - for some reason I found this video through the rabbit hole over the weekend and remembered how much I L-O-V-E-D this song in college. I'll leave you to it, but before I do, I just want to say how GLAD I am to be back posting in my regular routine, and I am so grateful to ya'll for sticking with me through this kind of weird bloggy time.

That's the way it goes, I guess.....

I missed your face!!! And that song takes me back to freshman year, reviving repressed memories of B.U.M. Equipment, Hypercolor and the Reebok Pump...

My friend Pam (pyjammy) sent me your blog link. I am a fellow MoM with 2 year old twins and a 6 month old little. I'm 5'3" and my twinkies destroyed my middle. (Can I just say how impressed I am that you survived trips with no stretch marks, nice genetics mama!) My stomach looks like the grand canyon when I lie down, that's how bad the diastasis is, it kills me. We are IVF'ers with one embryo left (god help me) and once that is done with I am having a tummy tuck too. Who knows if that will be next year, in five years? Embryos are a lot to think about. With that said, I'd love some advice on dressing with smoke and mirrors. I'm a skinny bitch with a three month pregnant stomach. Your pre-op side view is what I look like every day. It's heartbreaking. I finally gave away or threw away all of my clothes. And I do mean everything. It either didn't fit or it was so out of style (helloooo, I've been pregnant for the last two years) that it just wasn't worth keeping anymore. I had this beautiful idea that I would go shopping and replace everything with cute stuff that wouldn't make me suicidal every time I walked into my closet. Except I have three ages 2 and under, which means shopping is next to impossible. So now I rotate between three shirts that fit. FML. I finally had a nervous breakdown and hired a sitter to come and watch my clan so I can go buy some clothes. I want to look cute without looking boxy. I am 5'3" and before kids was very hourglass shaped. Now I'm pint glass shaped, ha! Seriously though. I am little and I would like to not dress in mumus to hid my tummy. You seem to have done that well pre-surgery. Any tips you have, please do share. Thank you!
