I have to talk about something that has been stressing me out, because I want to hear from anyone else who has gone through anything similar. Scarlett has been losing her hair. I have seen her chewing on single strands of hair when she's watching TV, without even thinking about it, and have seen her on a very few occasions pull out a strand to chew on. It seems like overnight, she had a huge bald spot on the crown of her head, from about mid-way back to where her bangs would be. It's pretty obvious, especially because I used to be able to pull her hair back into barrettes, but she literally has none to pull back now. I mean, what she has is very thin, short strands.
Then I remembered that when we switched shampoo at one point, the day after using it (and this was before the bald spot), her scalp was very flaky, so I just chalked it up to sensitive skin and stopped using it. It was shortly after that that I noticed the bald spot.
I'm wondering at this point if she is actually pulling it out, maybe when we're not looking - lying in bed at night? - or if it was a result of a bad reaction to shampoo. Tom had to take Simon to the doc last week, and he asked her about Scarlett at at the time. She said it sounded like something habitual she was doing, and that we should obviously redirect her if we saw her doing it, and get her something to play with while she watches TV (she suggested one of those squishy balls that have little rubbery tips all over the surface that can be stretched).
Needless to say, I would LOVE to hear from you if your kids did this, and how long it lasted, how long it took for the hair to grow back, and if it affected the thickness of the hair. I mean, she is only two, and has been the easiest kid thus far to deal with.

Hmmmm...sorry for the weird Monday morning post - I'm just concerned about my kid, peeps. Hope you had a great V.D. I'll change my tone tomorrow and fill you in on our weekend. In the meantime, seriously, if you have had experience with hair pullers/chewers, please comment, or e-mail me if you don't want to talk about it in front of 181 people.
