WWD: Waiter, There's a Fly In My Soup

...or "schoup," if you pronounce it like my girl Scarlett, or Sean Connery. Speaking of my girl (and my two boyz in the hood) I have never been this conflicted about leaving them. Yep, The Hubs and I leave tomorrow morning for Laguna, and aside from the fact that I have either a) sprained my ankle, 2. have a bone spur, or 3) have a bad case of the gout and my foot could fall off at any possible moment, I just have not mustered the proper level of excitement for this particular trip. Don't get me wrong - I am excited to go, but also a wee bit melancholy at the thought of leaving The Trips.

But you left them when you went to Laguna for your 40th bday last year, Shaaaannnan, I hear you saying. YESSSSSSSSSSSS, I KNOW THAT, but it's just....different this year. They are more THEMSELVES this year. Last year I doubt they even realized we were gone. This year I know they will. But it's only for a long weekend, Shaaaaaaannnan, you retort. I REALIZE THAT. Geesh. It's not like I'm leaving to go trek across the wilderness, for the love of Lewis and Clark, but still. I will miss the little buggers. I miss them already. Ah well - they'll be with grandma and other grandma. No, my mom is not a lesbian (not that there's anything wrong with that). One of her sisters is going to stay with her, and I refer to her as Grandma Rayma sometimes.

Enough of this crap. Let's get on to the REALLY important stuff - the clothes. KIDDING. I kid. I'm a kidder. So I feel a leeeetle "May I tell you about our specials tonight" in this jacket, as opposed to "HI MAY I TAKE YOUR ORDER!" which is what they yell at you upon entering the door at Gates' BBQ (incidentally the best BBQ in Kansas City, and many other Kansas Citian's will argue that point as we are very passionate about our BBQ, but they smokin' crack, cuz Gates IS the best)...BUT I DIGRESS. So, where were we? Oh yeah, the jacket. Got it at JC Penny for like 7 dollah to make you hollah, and love love like supah dupah giant puffy heart the tiny tails in back.

See - there they are. Cute, no? Shirt is a men's shirt I scored at ladieth night clothing swap a rama lama ding dong, jeans from me sis, belt old as dirt, necklatheth from F21 and Arden B.
Black glitter skull on my shoulder from Target, and which we affectionately call "Nana," for my mom. Don't worry - the tiny white skull above my head is Mama, the owl next to it is Dada, and the three punkins are Simon, Scarlett and Gavin. We allll have representation on the mantle. Except for my dad, who is just a big stick in the mud.

Shoes, Colin Stuart from Vicky's Secret. Shhhhh.....
Speaking of secrets - if you are a mom - what's your best tip for dealing with separation anxiety from the chillruns? I mean, besides Mad Dog 20/20...
Merci,
Shan

Hey Shannon! I just love your style and you crack me up everyday! I am a Mom of 2 boys - ages 6 and 8, and I'd love to tell you it gets better as they get older, but it really doesn't. Just know that the trips are being well taken care of and also having fun with not one, but two grandmas! And, you will be a better Mom when you return because you will have had a break:)

Fab outfit! Totally jealous of your vacation, I hear LB is fab-u-lous. You will be fine, the kiddos sound like they will have a blast. I've never had a night away from my 2 year old and I'm in need of one (or three). Have fun and just enjoy!!! xoxo

uggh... I am having separation anxiety for this weekend too. But I always remind myself that it is a vacation for them too... no grumpy mom telling them no every minute. Instead they will have their sitter (grandmas, etc) like putty in their hands to give them extra attention and everything they please and more. Have a blast!
