WWD: Aspen in the 80s

Ugh. It's WAY too early, I need to start working for my REAL job, and this is a WWD from a few weeks ago when we went to the pumpkin patch. Don't expect too much text here. Need coffee.

I felt very Goldie Hawn Aspen in the 80s in this getup. Think it was the combo of plaid shirt wif big giant fur wif boots.

Speaking of Goldie Hawn, ever seen Best Friends, with she and Burt Reynolds? One of my favorite Goldie movies EVAH. Heeee-larious.

I read an article on celebs once who have basically had the same "look" for years, and have stuck with it because it works for them. Goldie was one of the women they talked about - wish I could remember some of the others, but I find it interesting how people bash Jennifer Aniston for having the same look for several years now, but I don't see anything wrong with sticking with something if it works for you and is pretty simple and classic, which I feel Jen's look is. Yes, she asks me to call her Jen.

Maybe I also feel a little defensive because I sometimes have trouble changing up my look too. I finally found a hairdresser that I love, and a hairstyle that I love, but it's funny because for the longest time I ONLY wanted to wear it straight, and I find myself wearing it wavy/curly more often now. My natural hurr is very wavy/curly if I let it air dry, but I am NOT someone who can just let it air dry and it looks like "hey, I'm a Victoria's Secret model who has been frolicking on the beach all day today and my hurr looks AMAZING." No, I'm more like - "uh, are you going to fix that before we go out of the house?" hurr.

And to actually wear my hurr UP? Or down, as the case may be, in a low side pony/bun? Well, that's like I just shaved it into a mohawk. Don't know why, cuz I see women with their hurr done in all kinds of ways and love it, I'm just too chicken to try it myself. Ohhhh if I could wear that messy topknot bun on the top of my head, life would be grand. I LOVE that look.

Okay, I'm going to wrap this up so I can get some REAL work done now. After coffee.

But before I go, tell me two things: what YOU'RE afraid to change? Or are you? Please don't tell me I'm the ONLY one on this island.Secondly? Your favorite Goldie Hawn movie. Come on, you KNOW you have one.

Shan - (I'm just going to assume you would ask me to call you Shan), you make me laugh even when you have not had coffee! I would like to know, what is your "real" job? Just curious!
I am also afraid to wear my hair up - I think I look dorky (unless I am going to the gym and then I don't care).
My favorite Goldie movie is probably Private Benjamin - remember that one?

Cath,
I WOULD ask you to call me Shan, because it takes less time to type. I'm lazy like dat. Thank you for the compliment on my decaffinated attempt at humor. I appreciate it.

My real job is in economic development in the city in which I live. It's a 4-person office, and yes, I actually wear the getups that I post to work. You had better believe that when I can get out of the house sans chillruns, I am dressing UP. The people that I work with, thankfully, don't make TOO much of my ensembles.

I DO remember Private Benjamin. Good one. I had a hard time deciding between Best Friends and Overboard. LOVE that movie.

Hi! I love your blog. It is the first thing I do in the morning after diapering and dressing my own little glamourai.

I must admit, I am afraid to change my style. I am stuck in a 90's, Bettie Page meets Doris Day meets Tony Hawk sort of sitch. It ain't pretty but I find it quite daunting to make a change.

I could really give a rat's a** about Goldie hawn but my better half is OBSESSED with Overboard and we have to watch it everytime it is on the tube. Can someone please tell me why it is on like once a month?!? Anyhooski, you are so adorable and a lovely break in my day. Ciao! Nina

Last Satruday I went to Jardines for a friend's show and my earring tied my whole look together and that means wearing my hair UP... something I NEVER do - especially in public... so, after 30 minutes of a couple of friends giving my a pep talk, I did it and I felt sassy and fantastic the entire evening. It was SKEERY, but fun and exciting in the end.

Overboard gets my vote.

And I'm also a big fraidy cat about hair...it's been long and blond with long layers for about 10 years. I think about changing it up, but I guess I'm just not confident enough to go for it.
