Stop The Insanity!

For the love of Betty Crocker - it's like the Pillsbury Bake Off all up in here. Don't know what got into me this weekend, but I spent AMPLE time baking. Could be that I watched too much Food TV and my BFF Giada (hearts); could be that I started listening to a new audiobook called A Homemade Life, by Molly Wizenberg, blogger extraordinare Orangette, could be that I'm pre-menses and ravenous for anything, apparently. Here's the rundown...

Giada's Strawberry Rosemary Scones for breakfast on Saturday:

Pre-bake - they totes made me think of Edward Scissorhands laid out on the parchment here...

Pre lemon glaze....

These could be one of the best things I have ever baked. So. Good. And unfortch, you can't eat just one.
.
Which takes us to dessert for 4th - S'mores Pie, a la Smitten Kitchen:
I got it in my head that I wanted s'mores for dessert on the fourth, but wanted them in pie form, so I searched until I found this recipe. Little disappointed, as the chocolate cream layer hardened too much for my liking. It was almost like eating a candy bar in a graham cracker crust. Not that it didn't taste fabulous - I was just expecting something more creamy. And I'm sorry, but toasted marshmallows should be renamed "Food of the Gods," because really, WHAT could be better? Not much.
.
This leads to our star player, and my new favorite thing:
.
Banana Chocolate Bread with Crystallized Ginger and Whipped Cream, from Orangette. Holy. Sh!t. To steal a phrase from Rachel Zoe - this. was. bananas. I die. Uh-maz-ing. Okay, that's three phrases I stole, but this warrants three phrases. I have never been a big banana bread fan, but when I was listening to her description of this in the audio book, I was all, I am SO making that this weekend, The Weekend O The Bake. Worth every calorie.

Here it is with a plop of home-made whipped cream, with just the TEENIEST bit of confectioner's sugar. I knew the bread was going to be sweet, so I just wanted a bit of sweetness in the cream. Guh. If you need me, you can find me in the corner sleeping off my sugar coma.
Merci!
Shan
