Stuff We Would Kiss On the Mouf: Best Dresses of 2009

For as much as I bitch about Project Runway designers only using black, white, and nude to make their garments, I sure did pick a helluva lot of white dresses as my Favey Crocketts this year. Here are my top ten red carpet looks.

Merci!
Shan

10. Ginnifer Goodwin, Yves St. Lauren at the 2009 Emmys

Shan: Loved this color, and the neckline that perfectly showcased her jewelry. She just gets better and better on the red carpet.

9. Cat Deeley in vintage dress and Manolo Blahniks on stage at SYTYCD

Shan: Come on - you KNEW I had to put Cat on the list somewhere, didn't you? Her vast array of vintage wear made it hard to choose just ONE favorite look, but I'm a sucka for shiny or sparkly. I LOVE that she makes vintage work for her, and isn't afraid to alter it to suit herself. Go on witcho bad self, mama.

8. Drew Barrymore in Andrew GN at the Grey Garden's premiere at Mann Chinese Theater

Shan: Like Christina Ricci, Drew MUST be working with a stylist lately, because she has been SHUTTING IT DOWN on the red carpet. It is alllll about the accessories here, and that collar and ginormous turquoise cuff and ring? Buh-nanas. Seriously, I am almost out of Rachel Zoe-isms, and I'm only on number 8? I'm in trouble.

7. Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive at the 2009 Academy Awards

Shan: She is soooo old Hollywood glam goddess here. Such a simple, sleek silhouette but she knocked it outta the park.

6. Leslie Mann in Pamela Rolland at the 2009 Academy Awards

Shan: Here we go again with the shiny sparkly dressies. Love the 1940s cut of this. Tres chic.

5. Taraji P. Henson in Roberto Cavalli at the 2009 Academy Awards

Shan: Mz. Taraji was the most gorgeous woman I had never heard of at the Oscar's this year. The dress? The necklace? The hair? Guh.

4. Christina Ricci in Marc Jacobs at the 3rd Annua amFAR Cinema Against AIDS in Dubai

Shan: Like Drew B., Miz Christina rocked red carpet after red carpet this year. She has never looked better, in my humble opinion. The heavy bangs she started sporting took her from pretty girl to fabulous ingenue in one swift cut. Her skin is luminous, eyes are amazing, and she rocketed to the top of my girl crush list along with Cat Deeley.

3. Jennifer Carpenter in Zuhair Murad at the 2009 Emmys.

Shan: Despite the fact that I harbor insane jealously over Mz. Carpenter's marriage to Michael C. Hall, I can overook that for this dress. I DO think she needs to eat a sangwich or two, but there is no denying, that dress is fab-u-less.

2. Drew Barrymore in Alexander McQueen at the 2009 Toronto Film Fest

Shan: As I was looking back at all the dresses I loved this past year, I was surprised at how MUCH I loved this one when I saw it again. Yes, it's unconventional, and no, I don't like her hair with it, but the color, and that lace overlay that looks like a cross between a spider web and a tattoo is amazing, and no one but Drew could pull it off quite like this. Well played.

1. Eva Mendes in Dior at the 2009 Golden Globes

Shan: Guh. No. Words. for the fabulosity of this...she just killed it. She just killed an entire family of five in this dress. So perfect it is beyond perfect. Of course, the Van Cleef & Arpels collar necklace just throws it into another stratosphere. The milky way of fashion perfection. A galaxy unto herself. Going where no man has gone before.

May the force be with you.

That Eva Mendes dress stands out as one of my favorites too...it probably will be numero uno for a long time. Until Ms.Zoe comes up with some other fantabulistic number to throw on the Red Carpet. The necklace...I would give my next born child (well not really, but maybe) for that one.
